OXNOP Gill is one of the Swale's major tributaries, a wild and secluded side-valley that cuts a deep cleft between the fells of Lovely Seat and Blea Barf. The confluence of Oxnop Beck and the Swale is marked by Ivelet Bridge, a graceful packhorse bridge that rises high above the river and stands as one of the finest bridges in the Yorkshire Dales. It is also steeped in history for this bridge was once on the route of the Corpse Way between the dale- head and the consecrated burial ground at Grinton and it is also said to be haunted by a headless black dog which will bring terrible misfortune if you are unlucky enough to see it.See the full content of this document
