FOLLOWING the query here last week about the long-defunct Bachelors Club, interesting details have been supplied by Madge Baum, a retired teacher whose family have been pillars of the community in Middleton-in-Teesdale for generations.

She is an ideal person to know about the organisation for unmarried men, as the membership around the year 1900 included four of her great uncles - Ernest Lowe, Andrew Lowe, Thomas Bainbridge and Horace Addison. There was also a family link to another of the single lineup, Wilfred Addison.
