CONTROVERSIAL plans to bulldoze a factory and replace it with a supermarket have been approved, safeguarding hundreds of jobs.

John Elliott boss of Ebac, near Bishop Auckland, submitted the designs earlier this year which will see his factory replaced with a major retailer, rumoured to be Tesco.
