'A COUPLE of my pals have been talking about an old railway bridge off Green Lane, in Bishop Auckland, " says Doug Hatton on the phone, "but we don't know anything about it."

One of his pals is Maurice Hutchfield. "I grew up in the area 60 years ago, " Doug says. "We used to play down the Gaunless and there was definitely a red brick bridge down there. We asked an older chap we know - he's in his 80s - and he said it was called the Water Bridge."
