A POLICEMAN who waded into a freezing river to save a teenage boy from drowning was yesterday commended for his actions.

PC Martyn Butler was given a bravery award from the Royal Humane Society for the daring rescue last year, when he was hailed a hero for plucking the 16-year-old from the River Tees.
