Summary
Reactor: Feeling the Love (EMI)/Sharlene Hector: I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel to be Free (Warner) Two debut singles from artists who have been discovered by advertising: Reactor feature in the risque Lynx ad and Sharlene in the Coca-Cola ad.
Although both sound pretty good on the TV, neither manages to sustain it over the length of a threeminute single. Reactor's, though, is a great rush of a riff whereas Sharlene's is a cheesy imitation of Nina Simone's great song. CL Basement Jaxx: Plug it In (XL Recordings) This is the third single from the gold-selling Kish Kash album. It features N-Sync's JC Chavez and is the zingy, electric-sounding punkish noise we have all come to recognise as the Jaxx. Should be popular at the end of term disco. AL White Stripes: There's No Home For You Here (XL Recordings) This is from the band's acclaimed Elephant album, but isn't the best offering from this brother/sister combo. It lacks the spontaneity of previous recordings - but they still wipe the floor with The Carpenters on the rockometer. AL Nelly Furtado: Try (Polydor) A song about the reality of love, it's a bitter-sweet ballad which is nothing new, or different. Furtado set herself a benchmark with her first single I'm like a Bird and unfortunately she hasn't come close to it since. AL Thirteen Senses: Thru the Glass (Mercury Recordings) Hearing this was like spotting a multicoloured lilo while swimming through a sea of cold mushroom soup. Your ears will prick up as soon as you hear this. Great guitar riff, lovely, distinctive vocals. It's a heavenly sound, with teeth. Hallelujah.See the full content of this document
